5 reasons to see Melanie Martinez live.

5 reasons to see Melanie Martinez live.

As we count down the days until Melanie Martinez returns to New Zealand (she plays Auckland’s Powerstation on August 12th), we’ve compiled a list of reasons that you can’t miss her live show.

But first, here’s the official information on the show:

"Hailed as a stunning and provocative singer, songwriter and visual presence, the unforgettable New York artist Melanie Martinez plays her first headline show in New Zealand at Auckland’s Powerstation on Friday 12th August.

Melanie released her debut album 'Cry Baby' in 2015 to rave reviews, with critics applauding her infectious blend of pop choruses, R&B infused melodies and hip-hop beats, seeing it debut at #5 on the Top Albums Chart, a stellar #6 on the Billboard Top 200, while also coming in at #1 on the Top Alternative Albums chart.

This show announcement is sure to thrill Melanie’s army of New Zealand fans, where she has had over 4 millions streams of the content from her album. The new radio single ‘Pity Party’ has immediately jumped to over half a million streams in New Zealand already.

Since the release of her 2014 EP 'Dollhouse', Melanie has continued to amass a loyal following, and the near universal critical acclaim garnered by the release of 'Cry Baby' has resulted in SOLD OUT extensive North American and Spring European tours. Melanie also has a string of upcoming performances at major music festivals Lollapalooza, Panorama, Bumbershoot, Osheaga and more."

And now, here are five reasons to see her live:

#1. Her shows have incredible production - and we’re in luck, as she’s bringing production with her to New Zealand, something that many artists don’t do. Check out some photos from the ‘Cry Baby’ tour:

#2. The show marks her first ever headline show in New Zealand, as on her last visit she was playing as a support slot on Adam Lambert’s tour. The headline show means more songs, and we’re definitely not complaining about that!

#3. It’ll be your last chance to see Melanie before she returns and plays a larger venue - which she’s bound to do, considering how quickly this show has sold.

#4. As it’s her own show, she’ll be selling her own merchandise - and her merch is so cool! Check out some favourites below:

#5. Melanie can sing, like, really well. Watch a live video of her performing ‘Pity Party’ below:
