A 'Power Rangers' squad investigation.

A 'Power Rangers' squad investigation.

To celebrate the release of ‘Power Rangers’ - it’s out in New Zealand cinemas now! - we’ve decided to investigate all of your favourite real-life squads, to determine which Ranger each member of the squad is most like.

Before we begin, here’s the film’s synopsis:

“Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.”

And here are the new 'Power Rangers' cast:

Now check out our investigation of some of our favourite squads below…

#1. The 1975.

Matty Healy - everyone knows that Matty Healy is the #1 leader of The 1975, and he’s totally mischievous at the same time, just like Dacre Montgomery’s Red Ranger in the new film. He also cares about his other band-members more than anything else in the world.

Ross MacDonald is not only the Yellow Ranger because of his fondness for yellow turtlenecks, but he too is incredibly mysterious - a fact that in fact delights him.

The Blue Ranger, played in the new film by RJ Cyler (from ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl’) is both smart and sweet, attributes that obviously are talking about none other than Adam Hann. Oh, and they both rock blue outfits while lying down:

There’s no denying the coolness of George Daniel - it’s both Ross and Adam's favourite thing about him, making him 100% the Black Ranger, whose cool factor is undeniable as well.

And as ‘Power Rangers’ is all about joining forces and uniting, here’s an adorable pic of The 1975 all hugging:

#2. Troye Sivan + his pals.

Troye Sivan and his friends are also similar to the Rangers - many of them come from a variety of different backgrounds and are incredibly different people, but at the end of the day they are totally united. In fact, a number of the pals listed below all went to march in the Women’s March together last month - further showing their IRL unity.

With his debut album ‘Blue Neighbourhood’, there’s no way Troye Sivan could be anything other than the Blue Ranger - just look at him in our blue-themed shoot from last year:

Halsey used to rock pink hair and is known for her #edgy attitude, so must be the Pink Ranger.

She’s also got in common with Naomi Scott who plays Kimberly, the Pink Ranger in the film, that they’re both musicians!

+ Halsey’s rendition of ‘I Walk The Line’ also features in one of the ‘Power Rangers’ trailers:

No-one has more bravado and swagger than the fierce Miss Dua Lipa - who previously toured with Troye Sivan across the US. She therefore must be the Black Ranger of the squad, with her super cool exterior, but deep down she has a love for all her closest friends.

And there’s gotta be two Blue Rangers in this squad, because Troye’s BFF Hari Nef has to be blue too - the transgender actress and model is one of the nicest and most woke girls out.

#3. Taylor Swift’s squad.

Also known as the squad that made the word 'squad' a thing again. Her squad is seemingly endless, so we’re just focusing on a couple of the group's members for this purpose.

Taylor is no doubt the Red Ranger (she might even go to the gym as much as the film’s Red Ranger Dacre Montgomery) - she’s the ringleader of the gang, and helps bring out the best in everyone around her. Her song and album 'Red' are also a dead giveaway to which Ranger she'd be.

The Pink Ranger is known for her edgy and somewhat rebellious attitude - reminiscent of Lorde, especially in regards to her doing her own thing in the music industry. Her latest music video for new song 'Green Light' even features her rocking a fuschia pink dress:

Black Rangers have sass, so Gigi Hadid is the obvious choice - she’s a total girl-boss, and has an undeniable charisma about her. In the upcoming ‘Power Rangers’ film, the Black Ranger is a character called Zack, whose personality has many layers beyond his fearless appearance - much as we imagine Gigi to be. However, Gigi has already previously revealed her love for the Pink Power Ranger, even tweeting about her wish to play her in the film!

She's also worn a Pink Ranger beanie before! #1 Pink Ranger fan.

With her love for environmental causes as well as encouraging young girls to code through the Kode With Klossy courses, Karlie Kloss is the ultimate Blue Ranger of T-Swift’s squad.

And lastly, Cara Delevingne would totally be the Yellow Ranger of this gang - she’s both self-sufficient and contemplative, two characteristics that perfectly sum up the Yellow Ranger.
