An E^ST x 'I'm Doing It' album appreciation post.
Australian alt-pop artist E^ST (real name: Mel Bester) has released her debut album 'I'm Doing It' today, following a slew of singles and several previous EP releases. In celebration of 'I'm Doing It', we've put together five reasons to give the album a listen...
#1. When talking about the album, E^ST says: “The first half of the album is all about being a heartbroken mess as your life falls apart, and it’s wallowing in that with no effort to make sense of it. I mean you need to have a wallow — it’s crucial.”
Previous releases 'Maybe It's Me' and 'Fresh Out Of Love' both feature in this first half section:
#2. The album takes a turn with 'Turn', taking heartbreak and transforming it into optimism. She says, “(The songs) are still dealing with sadness and heartbreak, but there’s a conscious effort to do better and be better. The album takes on an optimistic tone as I grow as a person. By the end, the album’s like: it’s okay, I’m getting by, I’m coping.”
#3. Ahead of the album's release, she took to Triple J to perform a cover of Joji's 'Slow Dancing In The Dark':
#4. The release of 'Maybe It's Me' saw a cute animated video which sees E^ST walking across a colourful landscape:
#5. E^ST put together a list of advice for us (which you can read in full here!), which includes the very wise advice: "Decisions aren’t normally as big as they feel, so try not go get too hung up on them."
