"Currently, 86% of major festival line-ups are made up of male artists."

BBC Radio 1 host Annie Mac and Wolf Alice's Ellie Rowsell recently created a documentary in which they discussed and debated the gender inequality, sexism, and lack of women in the music industry. The hour long documentary aired on BBC Radio 1 and is entitled, 'Where Are the Women in Music?'

On her experiences in the industry, Rowsell said: "As a woman in the music industry, I'd hope we can be as successful as men...I went to a girls school and there wasn't many girls who wanted to be in a band. You felt like you had to do it alone...What's hard about the music industry is that when you start off, you don't have that much power."

On her experiences in the industry, Mac said: "I've had many experiences in interviews, where people always ask me - because there's so few women DJs -'what's it like to be a woman and a DJ? How do you juggle your work-life balance? Can you DJ in heels?'"
