Cult Netflix hit, Making a Murderer, has captivated television audiences around the world and has already been hailed as one of the most important documentary series ever made.

Two of the most compelling figures from the series, Strang and Buting, will bring the tour to New Zealand following an Australian tour. A Conversation on Making A Murderer with Attorneys Dean Strang & Jerry Buting will perform the final show of the tour at ASB Theatre on Wednesday, November 9.

The tour, which will involve the two attorneys in conversation about the Steven Avery case and its broader implications, will also feature the pair in a moderated discussion regarding the systematic failures of the criminal justice system. This will include a Q&A giving the audience a unique opportunity to address questions with both Strang and Buting.

Never has criminal justice - with its horrifying inequalities and travesties of fairness - been a hotter topic. The likes of gripping TV documentaries Making a Murderer, The Jinx, the podcast Serial and the latest reexamination of the OJ Simpson trial have made the US justice system a water cooler topic. A Conversation on Making a Murderer will allow audiences to have that water cooler conversation with two of the most pivotal people in this most compelling and controversial case.

Dean A. Strang is a lawyer in Madison, Wisconsin. He is best known for his work as one of Steven Avery's trial lawyers, as well as for his first book, "WORSE THAN THE DEVIL: ANARCHISTS, CLARENCE DARROW, AND JUSTICE IN A TIME OF TERROR." His work includes five years as Wisconsin's first Federal Defender; shareholder in three of the state's leading criminal defence firms (Hurley, Burish & Stanton, S.C., Fitzgerald & Strang, S.C., and Shellow, Shellow & Glynn, S.C.); and co-founder of StrangBradley, LLC. He is an adjunct professor at Marquette University Law School, the University of Wisconsin Law School, and University of Wisconsin's Division of Continuing Studies. Mr. Strang is a member of the American Law Institute and serves on several charity boards, including the Wisconsin Innocence Project. His second book will be published in early 2018.

Jerome F. Buting is a shareholder in the Brookfield, Wisconsin law firm of Buting, Williams & Stilling, S.C. He received his undergraduate degree in Forensic Studies from Indiana University and his law degree from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. He is a past director of the National Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers, a past president of the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers, and chair of the Wisconsin State Bar Criminal Law Section from 2005 to 2007. His present private practice is entirely criminal defence, both trials and appeals. He has defended the citizen accused in many serious high profile trial cases, including the Steven Avery case as shown in the Netflix documentary, “Making a Murderer” and he obtained the reversal of convictions in State of Wisconsin v. Ted Oswald and State of Wisconsin v. Ralph Armstrong (reversing a 25 year old murder conviction). He lectures worldwide and is frequently sought after for his knowledge in the use of expert witnesses and DNA evidence. His first book, published by Harper Collins, is due out in 2017.
