Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl designed his stage throne whilst high on medication.
If you've been following the adventures of Foo Fighters' frontman Dave Grohl and his broken ankle, then you're probably aware that Dave has been performing from the comfort of a giant throne. At a performance in Washington DC, Dave decided to share the origins of the throne, explaining how he designed it while he was high on pain medication.
In between songs at a 20th anniversary concert at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, Dave told a story worthy of true rock'n'roll legends:
"Ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you a story. A funny thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. We were on tour and we were in Europe, playing a gig in Sweden. It was a beautiful night just like today, a big ass stadium full of people. We started playing our set, it was all good. Then guess what? I fell off the fucking stage. What can I say? I hit the ground so hard, I broke my leg. But I met a nice doctor and he said 'Look, you dislocated your ankle. I have to put it back in place right now.' So he put it back in place. And I said 'Can I play this fucking show now?' He said 'No, wait, we got to put a brace on you'… I said 'How about you get the brace and I go play?'… We had a great show, but then I had to go get an X-ray, and I got jacked up. I went to the hospital and had a bit of surgery… I thought 'Oh shit, we have to cancel shows. I don't like cancelling shows.' So I took a couple oxycodones and drew a picture… I was high as a fucking kite. I said 'I ain't missing this show for the world, you build me this throne.'"
The throne's design consists of a giant Foo Fighters logo surrounded by lights, guitar necks and a resting pedestal for Dave's leg (which is now in a stylish purple cast).
What an absolute trooper! Dave Grohl = bonafide rockstar.
