In celebration of her third studio album 'Blood On The Silver Screen', Sasami took a trip to Seoul, South Korea earlier this year and compiled a photo diary for us from her trip. Alongside the photos, Sasami has shared a list of Seoul must-do's, her tour essentials, and advice for those wanting to try something new...
COUP DE MAIN: What are five things that you think are a must-do in South Korea?
SASAMI: 1. Buy kimchi/banchan from an old lady at a street market.
2. Go to a club in Seoul - I recommend Faust, Nyapi for electronic and Senggi studio for a local indie show!
3. Visit your Halmoni (grandma)!... If you have a Korean grandma...
4. Become friends with cool Korean locals so you don't have a Capitalism-explosion tourist-centric version of your trip. They will show you how to have a a good time. (see #5)
5. Go get some KBBQ (aka just MEAT in Korea lol) with your new cool Korean friends. If you are lucky they will even man the meat cutting scissors for you!
CDM: Do you have a favourite song from the album to perform live?
SASAMI: Right now I am really enjoying playing 'Nothing But A Sad Face On' because it is the first time I am touring with my French horn up on stage! It really takes the club to another dimension.
CDM: You've mentioned the importance of not boxing yourself in with the release of 'Blood On The Silver Screen' - what is a piece of advice you would give to someone who is wanting to try something new right now?
SASAMI: Literally just don't overthink it. In fact, if you're like me and you are really following your in-the-moment spirit, you will probably be like, "why am I doing this?" later, to which I would say "because one year ago you wanted to bitch!" and just keep being method about it.
CDM: If you could describe the new album in three words - what would they be?
SASAMI: Melodramatic, ethereal, unflappable.
CDM: What are your current tour essentials?
SASAMI: 1. Aeropress coffee rig.
2. Learning the house venue crew's names so it feels like a cozy day at the office.
3. High-heeled boots for stomping to B.O.S.S.
4. A daily stretching routine.
5. CosRX snail mucin that I apply to my face obsessively so I feel more like a slug than a human.
