Beau consists of duo Heather Goldin and Emma Jenney who became attached at the hip in their early years exploring teenage-hood and growing up in New York by each other's sides. The band's recently released sophomore album 'Girl Cried Wolf' sends a message to the listener of metamorphosis and reflection on the past.
We caught up via email with Heather about the new record, advice to her younger self, and helping people feel good...
COUP DE MAIN: How did you get your start in music?
HEATHER GOLDIN: We started writing songs together at a very early age and we learned to play guitar at the Greenwich Village Music School in NYC. Fast-forward to our very early 20's, we began going out during fashion week. That socialised us very fast to a world full of art and music. We suddenly found ourselves in Paris after making some new friends and signed to our first record label, Kitsune. Next thing you know we were touring all over Europe. We knew nothing about fashion, or we broke the rules, and we had music in our hearts quite literally.
CDM: If you could describe the album in three words - what would they be?
HEATHER: An open book.
CDM: 'Talk To Me' is centred all around communication - is honest communication the most important thing in any platonic or romantic relationship?
HEATHER: Honesty is important in all relationships and so is forgiveness.
CDM: What is your favourite thing about each other?
HEATHER: My favourite thing is we both respect, love, and understand each other.
CDM: If you could give your self from five years ago some advice - what would it be?
HEATHER: I would have told myself to chill the f out lol.
CDM: The track 'Messy' is a loving sentiment about someone else - but could also be used a good reminder to you to: "Be sweet to yourself / Talk, eat, don’t hurt anyone else." What was running through your mind when you wrote this?
HEATHER: This song had a small journey. It began in the woods of western Massachusetts while taking peace from the chaos of NYC. Ironically, it was finished in our friend Brandon Bost's recording Studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Brandon executed this song perfectly. We even had New York guitarist, Ludwig Persik, join in and add some beautiful guitar parts. Emma engineered the heck out of the lyrics, guitars, vocals, making sure every word was intentional. I sang every word as thoughtful as I could. Turn-this-on and take care of yourself kind of song.
CDM: Do you have a personal favourite song from the project?
HEATHER: My personal fave is 'Bodyparts' and 'What Are You Doing To Me'.
CDM: Are there any pipe dreams/manifestations/goals that you want to put out into the universe for 2025?
HEATHER: Main pipe dream would be to tour with Keanu Reaves, Rihanna, or Charli Xcx. Main goal is to help people feel good.
